He’s calling me. I’ll be right back.

TOMAS slides down to the floor; sits, head down.

BAUER enters, crosses the room almost at a run. TOMAS tries to get up, but BAUER holds him down.

BAUER

Wait! She’ll be back in a minute. I must tell you something while she can’t hear us …

TOMAS stops struggling, inclines his head forward.

BAUER

(Whispering) It’s the food. I’m afraid the food is–

Sound of footsteps. FRANCESCA stands in the doorway. She looks angry.
